inkstone: Air Gear's Ringo pulling down her glasses (you can count on me!)
[personal profile] inkstone posting in [community profile] bujo
If you haven't been keeping tabs, I recommend checking out the comments in the newbie-friendly resource post. Lots of good ideas and suggestions there!

Today, I thought it'd be fun to share our essential bujo gear. Maybe it's something basic like your bullet journal and a ballpoint pen. Or maybe it's something fancy like this amazing stamp and sticker set you have.

Whatever it is, leave a comment with a photo and/or a simple list of items. Consider this your introduction to the community and each other. Go!

In the pic:
- lined Moleskine cahier (although I'm considering transitioning to a dot-grid Leuchtturm because I think it will make my life easier when making spreads)
- Aurora Optima 75th Anniversary fountain pen loaded with Robert Oster Astorquiza Rot (red) ink, Aurora Optima blue chrome fountain pen loaded with Robert Oster School Blue ink

I'm already a fountain pen user and I like to match ink color to pen color. I basically use red ink for headers and emphasis, blue ink for everything else. But to be honest, red and blue ballpoint/gel/rollerballs would work just as well.

I think I halfway started bujoing to finally use a number of empty diary-type notebooks I've been gifted back in middle school, hence the funky cover *g* pictured is just my normal office supplies; I use fineliners a lot in taking notes etc., but they bleed through the paper of this particular journal, so I had to dig out most of my old gel pens - half of which don't work, go figure. (not pictured: my colouring pencils)

The lighting when I took this photo was not so good, but the pens (simple ballpoint) are all different colors: black, orange, red, pink, purple, blue, turquoise, green.

The journal is lined rather than dot grid, but it's what I had. Also, pretty.

My bare essentials for my home bullet journal are black cardstock (from a paper warehouse) and a white gelly roll pen.

An A5 5mm grid Apica CD Premium notebook, four kakuno fountain pens which get inked up from an ever-expanding collection, a parallel for making calligraphy-esque headings and titles, and about a third of my washi tape and sticker collection!

I use the thinner(3mm and 6mm) washi tape to segment out sections instead of ruling them out bc I have shaky hands and the rainbow washis to line page edges according to the importance of the spread and its subject. I use the stickers to paste anywhere that looks lonely, and most of them are planner stickers so they either encourage me or help me to write down to-dos or record stuff that happened. The clock is a little brass clip-on bookmark, and the cover is a Midori MD A5 plastic cover.

It feels like this is a lot, but I mostly make endless lists of things inside the bujo, in horrible spider handwriting.

I don't have all my stuff handy right now, but for my work notebook I'm using:

* Moleskine large grid notebook - I have liked grid better than dot grid so far, but I'm thinking about switching up to the extra large for the extra space. (It lives on my desk at work so the lack of portability isn't an issue.) The other notebook I'm eyeing off is the Delfonics Rollbahn. Mmmm.

* A really nice black ballpoint pen - I know everyone seems to use fineliners but for basic writing I much prefer a good ballpoint. Normally I'm a fountain pen junkie, but Moleskine paper isn't fountain-pen-friendly, at least not for Lamy inks. (Except in the cahiers - weirdly my gaming notebook cahiers seem to stand up to ink bleed much better than the classic Moleskine books.)

* Coloured Triplus Fineliners for emphasis, graphics and highlighting. I have about 30-40 of these in different colours.

* A looooooot of washi tape. :) I'll post pics when I can; a lot of it's at work.

Bujo

My Leuchtturm dotted- I love these! I started with a moleskine but I really love the Leuchtturms.
Washi Tape- because I love this stuff, pretty and useful!
post it sticky tabs- I use these to mark regularly used pages that I go back to, like my word count spread
post it sticky flags- I use these to make finding other regularly used pages
A variety of pens- because I love pens. What I'm using most in my bujo these days though is my Uni-ball Signo 307 bold in black, I just really love it. I also have a set of Mildliners there too, which are also useful and cool!

I have way more pens and washi tape than pictured though. I don't leave the apartment all that often so my bujo and supplies generally stay home :)

I'm fairly basic - a pocket sized, dotted Leuchtturm and a Zebra Sarasa Clip or two in the 0.3 size because I write tiny. When I try to get more complicated, I get distracted. XD

What I use:
- A lined notebook from Typo
- Black pen, any kind but usually a Pilot ballpoint pen
- Pink highlighter for accents to the header
- Ruler
- Mechanical pencil (for drafting things)
- Washi tape
- Decorative stickers and sticker markers

Due to the shabbiness of my gear (since I literally just grab what's within reach / I need to use up), only a notebook picture I'm afraid. My notebook:

And a close up of the lined pages, black ballpoint words and pink highlighter in action XD

A squared notebook I picked up off Amazon, and a handful of ballpoint pens in different colors. I'm deliberately trying to keep it simple because there are so many ways to waste money on this kind of stuff, and I know that if I go that route a) I'll go broke and b) I'll actually be less inclined to use it, because it'll become a Project instead of just a thing I do on the daily.

The notebook is a Leuchtturm dot grid notebook.
The pens are Staedtler fineliners... I love these things, but I do end up having to buy extra black ones 'cause I use them for essentially everything and eventually the points get messed up.
The ruler is an old novelty thing I got from a Doctor Who issue of some magazine in the UK (a friend sent it over). It used to have adipose on it, but the art came off.
The stencil was given to me by a friend, it's from MooandtheBoo on Etsy!

This is a lined journal, and I'm okay with it for my first foray into pseudo-bullet journaling, but I really want to get a Leuchtturm1917 with the dot grid.

I saw someone suggest the Papermate Flair pens on a website somewhere, and I've really liked them. Very pretty color.

The stickers are for Happy Planner, and I really really like them. The book was kind of expensive but I got it for 60% off. Very much recommended.

Anyone have recs for stencils?

What's in the pic:
- Official Bullet Journal (Leuchtturm 1917 with the bullet journal info in the back and the extra ribbon)
- A few of the pens I use regularly: Sharpie pens, Le Pens, and Muji pens
- Some of my stickers! Crowns, hearts, cute little cartoon people and animals, other cute cartoony people, and uh... party... stuff? The last three are all from my PIpsticks sticker subscription.

I only really use the goals, tracking, and lists part of a bullet journal, in an insert inside my personal size traveller's notebook. Pens are a staedtler fineliner, a highlighter and a mildliner, and a white gelly roll; plus the blue rollerball crown-pen I keep with my TN and a collection of double-ended colouring pencils. Small ruler, various stickers, an eraser/sharpener, rolls of thin washi, thicker washi spooled off onto thread-keepers, and then stencils and page-flags (London themed due to my recent visit). I sometimes use other stuff, but the pouch is my 'grab-bag'.

I'm pretty new to the bullet journal, but it's definitely been helping me stay organized and on task so far. I've always had a thing for notebooks and fountain pens, so I already have a good stash of materials, and my mom would kill me if she knew I am buying more "just in case" journals for this. >_>

Here's a pic of my current supplies:

Notebook, pens, and pen case laid on each other.

The journal is a Fabriano dot-grid journal, which is fairly comparable to the Leuchtturm1917 at half the price. (Does pretty well with fountain pens, but a little smaller with no bookmarks or page numbers already enumerated.) I like and recommend it but I also have a Leuchtturm1917 waiting in the wings because I love journals. It's awful for my wallet.

I found some really cool stamps recently but immediately clicked away from the web site because I really SHOULD NOT be buying anything more right now. I have no real income for the next four years so what I have should go toward necessities, which stamps and pens and journals are not.
