inkstone: Air Gear's Ringo pulling down her glasses (you can count on me!)
[personal profile] inkstone posting in [community profile] bujo
We're starting a new month and for many people, new months mean new beginnings. It's arbitrary, but there's something about seeing that 1 on the calendar, right?

So let's turn to our bujos. Are you trying anything new in February?

Maybe you're getting a new journal. Or do you want to try out that new fountain pen? Perhaps you've decided to experiment with a habit tracker. Or are you beginning a bujo for the very first time ever?

Whatever it is, let's talk about it here. Go!

I have fine tip sharpies for work, which I love. I use them for special education documents and they have been perfect for years.

For my home I use a white gelly roll pen (I write on black paper for my bullet journal-ing), which I love, but I want to try the white Signo. From what I've seen those are the two most used white ink pens.

From my art supplies I have Faber-Castell pitt artist pens in purple and green and they are lovely. Haven't used them for journaling, more for art projects.

For filling things in like a habit tracker I'm more inclined towards colored pencils or markers instead of pens. IDK why though.

I thought I wanted to use colored pencils. My daughter has some Prismacolor ones and another really nice set of a different brand I can't remember. So I did a decorative first page with them, and then I've noticed that the color has transferred to the opposite page from me writing on the back of it, etc. It doesn't really matter because it just transferred to the inside cover, but I think it would irritate me if it did it in the middle of the journal.

This is not bullet journal related but your white pen, black cardstock has made me think that would be an excellent way to send a letter. So chic.

I hadn't thought about ghosting onto the back of the page. I cut mine out and attach them into sections. It would annoy me if it showed through to another page.

YAY, black paper and white writing automatically looks cool. I work with preschoolers with special needs and they LOVE getting to write on black paper with white crayons. That's one of my tricks to transition them into paper and pencil for kindergarten.

That sounds like a really rewarding job.

I have a 3 1/2 year old who is getting super interested in reading and writing. She's been talking a lot lately about learning to read and going to school and etc. I've been getting her to draw shapes and she can do a few letters pretty terribly. LOL

I don't think she's ready for a pencil yet, though. She still snaps every second crayon she uses. LOL

I really love it, even on bad days there's nothing else I would rather do.

Kids being interested in learning makes the rest come easier. I keep my preschoolers in crayons, markers, paints, chalk, etc as opposed to pencils. I don't introduce them to pencils until they're hands are "ready" for them. For 3 1/2 I always recommend propping activities up on easels and taping to walls to help their hand grasp develop. Generally they start with a fist and putting the writing surface vertically makes it natural for them to progress. Depending on where she is with her grasp, if she's using her fist to color, broken crayons are fantastic for getting their fingers to work on using "pinching fingers" instead of holding a whole crayon in their fist. For young ones I always opt for hand strengthening tasks like playdoh, beading, etc to strengthen their hand. I could ramble forever, lol.

This is so fascinating. I never thought to set up an easel, etc. Thanks for the tip.

I think teaching people to read and write is such a cool skill to have. I teach college, and I can teach people who can already read and write to do that better, but I don't know how to start at the beginning.

Your love for your work really comes through your comments.

I have a white Signo and I adore it. :D

Tell me about the Faber-Castell pitt artist pens! I've been eyeing those for art someday but haven't made the plunge.

I'm def going to search out a white signo. The gelly rolls were local, so I'll order signo if I can't find it in store after my gelly roll dries up.

The pitt artist pens are so nice. It's a felt tip, which I like. I had a set and used up the other colors for an inking project. They lasted about two month with daily use, which was a larger comicbook-ish project. I wish they lasted longer for artwork and I have no idea how they would last for journal-ing. I have used them for post cards and they were excellent for handwritten notes. Super smooth and flowy.

Cool! I will someday (not today) make the leap. Half my reluctance is that I am sitting on a large stash of Copics, which I got used to; obvs. Copics are fugitive as hell, but I figure I will just scan the heck out of everything??? And the fact that they're refillable might someday even be relevant. I do art pretty intermittently so it's not as crucial for me. I wish I had more time for it, though, but I have to concentrate on this @!#$ novel.

Yay comic books!
